Who does Charlotte Doyle kill? Hollybrass is the first mate on the Seahawk. He gets murdered during the hurricane with a knife to his back. Charlotte is accused of the crime, tried for it, and found guilty.

Later, we discover that Captain Jaggery actually committed the murder himself because Mr. What does Charlotte reveal about her father? Charlotte's father is a man of rules and order who thinks punctuation and spelling are very important things for his daughter to learn. When she decides to apologize to the captain for flicking him with the whip, for example, it's because she thinks that's what her father would want her to do Charlotte is tried for the murder and found guilty by Captain Jaggery.

When she is to be hung, the captain falls and dies. The crew names her the new captain. However, it turns out that Zachariah was not killed during the whipping, and he does all the work of the captain. Who is Mr Grummage? Grummage is Charlotte's guardian at the beginning of the book, and he escorts her to the Seahawk. He's a bit pushy and insists that Charlotte make the voyage, even though no other women will be on board.

What are some character traits of Charlotte Doyle? One of the most important conflicts in the novel has to do with who will captain the ship. In other words, who's best fit to lead the small society of the Seahawk? Cranick and the crew try to dethrone Jaggery during the first mutiny, but Cranick gets killed and Zachariah is beaten within an inch of his life.

How do you think the trip would have been different if the other families had not canceled and had joined Charlotte? Once Charlotte is back on land, she has a hard time fitting in with her family. Why do you think this is? How have her experiences aboard the Seahawk changed her?
