Can you harvest ice in minecraft
For Pocket Edition PE , you tap and hold on the block of ice. For Wii U, press and hold the ZR button on the gamepad. An ice farm is harvested by standing in the ice pan and mining more or less indiscriminately with a Silk Touch pickaxe. The ice blocks will be harvested, while the water source blocks at the rim and hopefully the dirt bed will be unaffected. For Nintendo Switch, press and hold the ZR button on the controller.
For Windows 10 Edition, left click and hold on the block of ice. For Education Edition, left click and hold on the block of ice. The ice block will break and a smaller block of ice will float on the ground. Placing a block anywhere above the water will also stop it from freezing although not melt it if it is already frozen , so long as the water is not exposed directly to the sky.
Ice will not hydrate farmland. This will allow for the water to turn into ice, which you can then mine with your Silk Touch pickaxe to collect the ice, and the Ice Collection will unlock. Blue ice is an item similar to packed ice — it can be crafted by placing a packed ice block in each square of the crafting table. It will not melt near light sources and allows for faster sliding of items, boats, water currents, etc.
The only way to obtain an ice block is through the use of the silk touch enchantment. The only feasible way to accomplish this is through the creative mode where you can access the item selection screen. It is so long as it is within a snow biome, otherwise, it cannot be sustained and in turn, cannot be spawned naturally.
This is actually fairly straightforward. All you need to do is expose the ice to a high enough light level where it eventually will melt. If the light level is 12 this will happen immediately. So long as you keep the ice from too high of a light level it will not melt, so keep this in mind when you build ice structures. Ice will not melt in the end unless you place a light source next to it that is bright enough to melt it. If you want to see an actual and physical example of how silk touch can work to gather ice you can watch this video:.
Mining for ice can be a very straightforward and simple matter once you have the right tool and enchantment. The only difficult part of this process is going to be getting the enchantment itself. With enough dedication, enchanting, and levelling up, this can become very much tenable however, and should not be too big of a problem long term if you are effective at farming for experience. When a non-full block is placed on top of ice, the block has the same "slipperiness" as the ice below it. Ice can be used to create water either by its melting or being broken. If there is another block directly underneath the ice block, the ice reverts to water when broken.
Ice also melts into water if the light level immediately next to it on any side is higher than 11, from light sources other than sunlight , but ice does not melt from sunlight.
In Education and Bedrock editions, ice also melts when near a heat block , though heat blocks do not produce light. Compared to water buckets , ice has the benefit of being able to stack in the inventory. Therefore, carrying ice instead of water buckets can be much more convenient, if the player wants to create a lot of water sources. If ice melts or is broken in the Nether , no water is produced.
